Adventures of being A Green Witch
Being a Green Witch isn't always easy...
Even though I consider myself a #GreenWitch life is hard being one. Why? Well I am allergic to fire ants, have extreme sinus and allergy issues, and I live in Texas. Enough said right? LOL. If you have never lived in Texas it gets hot. But the heat index is really bad.... It would be different if it was just hot which I could deal with since Ive lived here all my life. But the humidity/heat index are killers. Literally.
When going out as a reminder even to myself BRING lots of water. More than you think you'll be able to drink. When I went hunting for Juniper Berries (which I found none! 😠except the pine needles) I brought a large cup of ice water. I knew I would have to fill up sooner or later. However, the later became sooner than I thought. Thankfully the park I went to has a few places to water up on. Down side the water taste worse than my tap water. 🤮 Regardless I filled up my cup and kept on trucking. I did find a small juniper tree which I *cough* "re-homed" shhhh.... I got the juniper pines still stuck in my hand to prove it. Ive noticed that when juniper is young their needles are sharp especially when they are dry 😱💀. I was determined to get it still being that I didn't want my trip to be for not. I did gather some pines from various trees to not take too much from one tree. It would of created stress on that on tree vs taking sprigs here and there. You can find some photos I took while being out and about on my IG (Instagram) account. You'll notice in one photo that I made a tincture with the juniper needles. I did see one branch with berries but there were so few and unripe I couldn't use them. Next time ill have to come earlier in the season.
A Very Long Day
It was a long day for me that day. Sorta a let down but I was in NATURE so that is all that mattered. There was so much to see. I have a habit of looking at the smallest details so my mind was overwhelmed. I love being a green witch and I love the ways of the #GreenCraft. So much to explore and discover.
I found some moss growing on some old juniper trees. Two things that I love a lot. Moss and trees. Mostly roots though. I just find root systems so fascinating. I saw a documentary (How trees talk narrated by Suzanne Simard) on how plants communicate to each other through their complex root system. How they talk to each other. Sharing information on how to adapt, survive, send defensive signals, and interchanging food supply. Awesome right?
Inspiration
As a child I always had a fascination with nature and plants. I guess you can say that it's lead me to where I am now. I found myself looking for interesting species of plants I never heard about or had seen. My mom was also an inspiration as she advocated it. She had her own garden. Though it wasn't one that you could eat from. She was a cactus and succulent enthusiast. Just like her mother who had the same fascination with them. Both of them would create landscapes with toys. Things like plastic animals, dinosaurs, human figurines that fit the size of their miniature gardens. I would imagine scenarios of battles or just just a daily life if I was one of those figurines. I dreamt of having my very own garden. Though, I wanted to grow plants that I was able to use for food and for medicinal purposes. I grew a few things in my parents house like strawberries, watermelons, and some tropical plants.
It wasn't until later when I got the cactus and succulent fever. I went a little over board with buying every weird looking plant I saw. I would research how some were poisonous and how some were edible. For instance the Nopal you are able to eat the pads and the fruits. You may have to scrape off the needles first though.
Research
In high school and even in junior high I would go to the library and spend hours reading up on plants. I would check out the books and even occult books which I found strange at the time. Strange because they actually had occult books in school. It was sorta a taboo thing at the time I guess. My immediate family doesn't practice the Craft but we have a long line of practitioners of various paths. I started my path in various traditions but I was always lead back to the Green Craft. It just made more sense to me.
The more I learned the more I became obsessed. Now you will find my entire yard front and back littered with various plants. Everything from herbs, poison garden, vegetables, fruits, and other medicinal goodies. I am always reading up on different ways of being a better plant alchemist/gardener and how to incorporate that into my Craft. My passion drives me and inspires my world from morning to night. When most people are noticing mundane things I first notice trees and other plants. Trying to search for something interesting. I would often tell my ex-partner about certain plants we just past or were near. They didn't care like most people wouldn't. But if you are among other gardeners oh their heads do turn, ha ha.
Even though some days are hard to get out and garden I still will do it because it is my passion. It is my way of life. It is what I live for. I will continue to share what I find to inspire you and anyone who comes across my post. I hope you found this rant/blog interesting on the life of a green witch like me. Every green witches journey is different. No two are alike as we all have our own ways of doing things and different inspirations.
